Saguaro cactus are up to 90% water, with little left when dried out.. The vertical pleats allow for expansion and shrinkage depending on water content. The spines absorb even a mist and the waxy skin serves as a photosynthesizer, supplying the cactus with food. This one is still standing in a garden with organ pipe cactus.
